Autonomous city bus for downtown lines
MA thesis supported by Mercedes-Benz Design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, 2012
The aim of the thesis was to create a vision of an autonomous, zero-emission downtown transport vehicle, looking 20 years into the future. IVY adapts well to newly developed city centers that treat pedestrians and vehicles as equals
Interior
The IVY is perfectly suited to serve the public transport needs of crowded city centers. The bus has no traditional doors: they are replaced by a wide, interactive, segmented surface that opens according to the number of passengers getting on and off. This solution enables convenient and efficient passenger exchange.
Since IVY is primarily a low-speed bus serving downtown lines, the cabin could be given huge glass surfaces, reducing the claustrophobia caused by public transport.
Design Character
The design of the concept subtly calls upon the elements of the legendary Mercedes-Benz O 302 bus : the contour of the windshield, the curved, chamfered roof line and the distinctive front carry the design DNA of its ancestors.
MOME Graduation 2012
In 2012, Andras Hunfalvi's diploma project won the MOME rector's prize, the Golden Cylinder. It is awarded to the most outstanding master's work in each major.
